I recently had the pleasure of diving at Laguna Reef on the western side of Tiran Island, and it was an experience I won't soon forget! Known for its stunning coral lagoon, the site boasts an average depth of 10 to 12 meters, providing a perfect playground for divers of all levels.
As we approached the dive site, the breathtaking turquoise waters immediately caught my eye. The vibrant colors of the coral formations were mesmerizing, and I couldn't wait to explore the underwater wonders that awaited us. The lagoon is divided into North and South Laguna by a transverse hard coral wall.
South Laguna, or Marsa Shabir as it's known among local fishermen, is the larger of the two and offers the best mooring point in the region. It provides safe shelter from any unfavorable sea conditions, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed dive. The visibility was fantastic, and the marine life was abundant. We encountered schools of colorful fish, and I was particularly fascinated by the delicate gorgonians swaying gently with the current.
The diving conditions were influenced by tidal currents, which added an exciting element to our dives. We chose to dive in the afternoon, and it was the perfect time to experience the vibrant underwater ecosystem.
One of the highlights was descending to the wide plateau south of the South Laguna beacon, where I marveled at the large table corals (Acropora sp.) and the steep wall that drops off into deeper waters. It felt like swimming in an underwater paradise, surrounded by the beauty of nature.
Whether you're a seasoned diver or just starting out, Laguna Reef offers a truly unforgettable experience. The combination of stunning coral formations, diverse marine life, and the serene beauty of the lagoon makes it a must-visit dive site in the Red Sea. I can't wait to return and explore more of this underwater wonderland! ... Show More
