Diving at Ras Ghamila is an experience that should not be missed for anyone venturing into the vibrant underwater world of Sharm El Sheikh. Known for its stunning topography and diverse marine life, Ras Ghamila offers divers a unique opportunity to explore a long plateau adorned with magnificent table corals and soft corals, making it one of the most picturesque dive sites in the region.
Typically done as an optional third dive after two exhilarating morning dives in the Straits of Tiran, Ras Ghamila is an excellent way to cap off a day of diving. As we descended into the crystal-clear waters, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the table corals that stretched out like nature's own artwork. The vibrant colors and intricate formations created a stunning backdrop for what was to come.
One of the highlights of this dive site is the chance to observe a variety of marine life hiding beneath the corals. I was thrilled to spot Crocodile Fish camouflaged against the sandy bottom, their unique shapes and colors blending seamlessly with their surroundings. The presence of Blue Spotted Sting Rays gracefully gliding along the reef added an extra layer of excitement, while the curious Groupers peeking from their hiding spots were a delightful sight.
The currents at Ras Ghamila can be quite strong, which makes for thrilling drift dives. Navigating through the water with the current was an exhilarating experience, allowing us to cover more ground while effortlessly gliding past stunning coral formations. However, it's essential to be mindful of the currents and have a good understanding of drift diving techniques, as they can add an element of challenge.
At the corner of the dive site, we were greeted by schools of black Snappers, which were a spectacular sight to behold. Their synchronized movements created a mesmerizing display that felt like an underwater ballet. Additionally, I was fascinated to see Cornet Fish stealthily stalking their prey, often hiding behind larger fish, showcasing the intricate predator-prey dynamics of this vibrant ecosystem.
In conclusion, diving at Ras Ghamila is a must-do for any diver visiting Sharm El Sheikh. The combination of breathtaking coral formations, vibrant marine life, and the thrill of drift diving creates an unforgettable experience. Whether you're a seasoned diver or a novice, Ras Ghamila offers something for everyone, making it a highlight of any diving itinerary in the Red Sea. I can't wait to return to explore its wonders again!... Show More

"An Unforgettable Drift Dive Experience at Ras Gamila"
Ras Gamila, also known as "Delightful Cape" in Arabic, offers divers a delightful drift dive that is both accessible and exciting. With a depth range of 12m-15m, this dive allows you to effortlessly glide northwards, providing stunning views of large colonies of Porites coral, breathtaking Acropora corals (table corals), and graceful Gorgonian Sea Fans.
As you explore Ras Gamila, keep an eye out for the incredible marine life that thrives in this area. Feathertail stingrays, Barracuda, and Grouper are commonly spotted, adding to the allure of this underwater paradise. This reef, located near the Baron Resort, stretches from Ras Nasrani to the lighthouse, marking the entrance to the Straits of Tiran. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver, Ras Gamila is a great option for everyone, thanks to its abundant marine life.
During your dive, you will have the opportunity to witness schools of yellowfin goatfish, baracudas, feathertail rays, honeycomb rays, and the ever-present house turtle that can be seen on every dive. If you're lucky, you may even encounter a majestic manta or a whale shark, particularly during the summer months. The water current conditions in the Straits of Tiran have contributed to the development of spectacular hard coral formations that add to the beauty of this dive site.
The gradual descent of the reef, starting from shallow waters to a depth of about 10-15m with a sandy bottom (perfect for beginners), creates a diverse underwater landscape. As you descend further, the maximum depth reaches 30-40m, offering a thrilling experience for more experienced divers.
