Dive Flag Dania Beach Erojacks, Dania Beach

Park at Dania Beach Pier if before/after hours, or if during open hours you can alternatively use the epically-named Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park. From the pier head north, from the State park head south. Identify the wooden dowel shore marker, located in the seagrass on the bluff, that is marked with "jax" (there are multiple dowels, not all are marked with "jax"). Depending on current, enter water N or S of marker (usually I enter S of marker). Kick out approximately 50 m (~1/2 pier length if using pier as visual reference point) before first erojax can be found. Jax density starts sparse and then increases to a thick linear pile that runs until a ledge that starts ~1.5 pier lengths from shore. Always have a flag. Watch for boats. Look for turtles, various rays (including spotted eagle and atlantic), tarpon, etc. All are common here. If you appreciate the small details: you're in luck. Look for giant anemones, orange and pink cup corals, various urchins, and lots of encrusting sponges. Ample fish throughout. Every once in a while, schools of young jacks (though not as common as other pier-adjacent shore dives in the region). The best. Just the best. ... Show More Oct. 21, 2022
