Together with ProShot & Tidal Sports

The ProShot & Tidal Sports team is comprised of passionate ocean advocates who love to snorkel, scuba dive, and film the depths. Originating as LASO Technologies in 2015, four University of Vermont alumni merged their love for the outdoors with a vision to revolutionize underwater photography using iPhones. Thus, the rugged, waterproof ProShotCase emerged, enabling iPhone users to capture every moment, even 130 feet underwater.

Today, based in Massachusetts, co-founders Andrew and Sophie Laird continue to create innovative UW gear, propelled by their firsthand experiences using ProShotCases on numerous dives and snorkeling excursions. In 2019, frustrated by persistently foggy masks, they developed the Tidal Mask, an anti-fog solution born from years of meticulous research and testing.

LASO Technologies now encompasses both ProShot & Tidal Sports, with the team traversing the globe, armed with their own gear, in pursuit of aquatic adventures. Join them on the water—your next unforgettable journey awaits!

Dubai Reef Project

Dubai has announced the launch of a MASSIVELY ambitious project that will be one of the worlds largest marine reef developments. Through a series of four phases starting in 2024 and ending in 2027, the initiative aims to create over 400,000 cubic meters of reefs spanning over 600 square kilometers (85,000 football fields) using over 20,000 artificial modules.

The launch of the project is part of a larger effort of combating the decline in coral reefs, enhancing fish stocks, supporting sustainable fishing and to help boost food security.

The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, took part in a diving expedition in April to mark the launch of the coral conservation scheme.

You can watch a short video about the project here.

Global Coral Bleaching Event

Scientists reported bad news for the coral reefs over alarming new evidence of a global coral reef bleaching event that could be the worst in history.

This will be the fourth mass bleaching in the last 26 years and all of them have aligned with El Niño. Over the past year, ocean temperatures have risen to record highs causing coral bleaching at more than 54% of the world’s reefs. When coral is bleached, the animal is in a very stressed, weak state and they can only survive the warmer water temps for minimal time.

If the corals are in this stressed state for too long, they will eventually die resulting in the loss of habitat for numerous marine species. Many species depend directory on coral reefs for food, shelter, and breeding grounds. The loss of coral reefs also has a significant economic impact with devastating effects on local economies.

El Niño is expected to start winding down this month, hopefully bringing cooler waters back to some reefs.
