Whether you're a novice or a seasoned diver, Bermuda's underwater world has something to offer. 🚢 Bermuda is often referred to as the "Shipwreck Capital of the Atlantic" due to the numerous wrecks scattered around its waters. The island is surrounded by treacherous reefs that have claimed many ships over the centuries, creating a diver's paradise. 🐠 Bermuda’s coral reefs are among the northernmost in the world, offering stunning underwater scenery. The reefs are home to vibrant marine life, from tropical fish to larger creatures like barracudas and rays. During certain times of the year, you may also encounter migratory species such as humpback whales. 📍 Bermuda Dive Sites | Been Diving or Snorkeling Lately? | | Image Credit: TSD User VirginiaW | Your experiences are very helpful to others and will help them in deciding what sites to visit and operators to use. | | Industry News | DEEP's Pilot Underwater Habitat | | | Imagine a world where humans can live and work beneath the ocean’s surface. That’s exactly what UK-based company DEEP is working towards. Just a year ago, they announced their ambitious mission to make humans aquatic, allowing scientists to conduct groundbreaking research while living as deep as 200 meters (656 feet) below the sea. Now, DEEP is taking its first steps toward realizing this vision with the unveiling of their Vanguard underwater habitat, set to launch next year. Vanguard is a pilot habitat designed to house a crew of three for short-term missions focused on training and testing. These missions will provide critical insights that DEEP will use to refine and expand their future underwater habitats. The Vanguard is just the beginning. DEEP envisions a future where larger habitats will enable long-term underwater exploration, bringing us closer to the ocean’s most mysterious ecosystems. Through these innovative habitats, scientists will be able to work in an immersive environment, studying marine life and the deep sea in ways never before possible. Learn More | Over 30,000 Lionfish Removed from Florida’s Reefs | | Image Credit: Tom Fisk pexels.com | The ninth annual Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Lionfish Challenge made waves in 2024, breaking records and making a huge impact on local marine ecosystems. This summer-long tournament saw hundreds of divers coming together with one goal: to capture as many invasive lionfish as possible. The results were staggering, surpassing every previous year since the challenge began in 2016. Lionfish, first reported in the Caribbean in the mid-1980s, have caused severe ecological damage due to their rapid reproduction and lack of natural predators. Their appetite for small fish disrupts delicate marine ecosystems, threatening key species that are essential for maintaining healthy coral reefs. By removing thousands of these venomous predators, participants in the 2024 Lionfish Challenge played a crucial role in reducing their harmful impact and protecting Florida's reefs. This collective effort is a excellent example of how community action can help restore balance to fragile ecosystems. Read more about the Lionfish challenge here | | Thanks for reading!
