130+ Historic Shipwrecks Mapped Beneath Gibraltar

Using high-resolution seabed mapping and historical records, researchers identified more than 130 previously undocumented shipwrecks beneath the waters around Gibraltar, the narrow strait between southern Spain and North Africa.


Dating from the 17th century through World War II, the wrecks offer a remarkable glimpse into centuries of maritime history. Many remain protected archaeological sites, reminding us that countless stories still lie hidden beneath the surface.

Cuba Finds Creative Ways to Restore Coral Reefs

With limited resources but plenty of determination, Cuban scientists, freedivers, and local communities are finding innovative ways to restore damaged coral reefs. Using recycled materials and handcrafted structures, they're creating new places for young corals to grow while protecting some of the Caribbean's healthiest reef ecosystems.
