The Robert Gaskin is 19th century schooner located off the shores of Brockville, Ontario. I thoroughly enjoyed my dive down to the Gaskin, as it was amazing to see so many features of an over 160 year old boat. The dive has some light current and maxes out at about 60 to 70 feet, the max depth on my dive was 69 feet.
The wreck is possible for penetration, as the overhead is relatively open, save for some beams across the top. A large hole is visable on the side of the side of the wreck that divers can enter and exit from. There is also a large anchor near the wreck, for divers to see. The wreck is accessed by boat charters which run from Brockville. A descent line is available for divers to follow to the wreck.
It is possible to dive to the wreck from the shore of Brockville, however, as the swim out takes 20 minutes and a recreational boat traffic lane is above, divers need to treat the dive as if there was an overhead environment. The shore dive requires additional air and pre-requisite training, as divers taking this route use double tank set-ups to ensure they have ample air and redundancy for the dive.... Show More
