Dive Flag Lock 28, Cardinal

A very fun dive. The lock 28 drift starts at the Galop Canal and takes divers to the nearby Conestoga. There are two entry points. On the north side of the canal, divers can enter with a giant stride. Divers can also cross the bridge to the south side where they wade in and begin near the Wreck of the Wee Hawk, which divers can explore before beginning the drift. The drift goes down the canal, and with some attention to navigation, divers exit the canal and enter the St Lawrence, drifting until they reach the Conestoga. The fast currents, many things to see in the canal as well as the Conestoga, make this a fun dive. While moderately challenging, new divers can join with nearby groups and get a good feel for drift diving. I highly recommend this dive. ... Show More Oct. 5, 2023

Dive Flag Challies Trout Pond, Williamsburg

This is a popular spot for dive training. The area around the pond is scenic and is also frequented by fishers and swimmers. Entry is done by shore, and there multiple spots that are easy to enter from. Depths in the pond vary generally from 20 to 30 feet. The deeper sections of the quarry have a thermocline, and can be quite cold throughout the year. Platforms are available for training and there is a wrecked truck underwater. The pond is stocked with trout by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. ... Show More Oct. 4, 2023

Dive Flag Lock 23, Morrisburg

The dive at lock 23 is a fun and fast paced dive. As there is a relatively strong eastward current, the dive is done as a drift, starting at the Morrisburg Public Dock and ending at Morrisburg Beach. The dive offers a lot to see, including the submerged lock 23 and parts of what used to be the Morrisburg waterfront. Pike, sturgeon, bass are some of the fish that may be encountered on the dive. As the current is strong and dive buddy separation is possible, an SMB is highly recommended. ... Show More Oct. 3, 2023

Dive Flag Wreck of the Robert Gaskin, Ottawa

The Robert Gaskin is 19th century schooner located off the shores of Brockville, Ontario. I thoroughly enjoyed my dive down to the Gaskin, as it was amazing to see so many features of an over 160 year old boat. The dive has some light current and maxes out at about 60 to 70 feet, the max depth on my dive was 69 feet. The wreck is possible for penetration, as the overhead is relatively open, save for some beams across the top. A large hole is visable on the side of the side of the wreck that divers can enter and exit from. There is also a large anchor near the wreck, for divers to see. The wreck is accessed by boat charters which run from Brockville. A descent line is available for divers to follow to the wreck. It is possible to dive to the wreck from the shore of Brockville, however, as the swim out takes 20 minutes and a recreational boat traffic lane is above, divers need to treat the dive as if there was an overhead environment. The shore dive requires additional air and pre-requisite training, as divers taking this route use double tank set-ups to ensure they have ample air and redundancy for the dive.... Dive Flag Claraboyas Reef, Varadero

I had an enjoyable dive at this reef. The site is accessed by boat and a line is available for easy descents and ascents. While not as colourful or vibrant as the Bay of Pigs, there is still an abundance of fish and reef to see. My depth on this dive maxed out at 68 feet.... Show More Aug. 20, 2023

Dive Shop Icon Atlantis Varadero Scuba Diving Center, Varadero

Atlantis Varadero was excellent during my time in Cuba. I was able to dive with them twice. Their equipment was well maintained (I rented a tank, BCD, and weights). They were very communicative and friendly throughout. The dives were interesting and enjoyable, and the guides did a good job of explaining and leading them. I would highly recommend them to anyone diving in the Varadero area.... Show More Aug. 19, 2023

Dive Flag Wreck of the Rothesay, Ottawa

The Rothesay, which rests just west of Prescott, Ontario is the wreckage of a 19th century sidewheeler. The ship was involved in a collision with a tug boat in 1889, leaving her wrecked off near Prescott. The wreckage was later used for explosives practice in 1901, which is apparent when you visit the wreck. The wreck is generally accessed by shore, an underwater line guides divers from the beach to the wreck. The dive is generally enjoyable, however visablity is variable. As the water warms, the visablity worsens, meaning the best time to dive the wreck is early and late in the dive season (late spring/early fall). The depth maxes out at 30 feet and there is some light current. The Rothesay is also an appealing night dive, divers like to arrive in the late afternoon and do one dive in daylight and and one at night. Marine life, including drum, catfish, pike, carp, crayfish and freshwater eels can be seen on and around the wreck. ... Show More Aug. 18, 2023

Dive Flag Centeen Park, Brockville

Centeen Park is located in the City of Brockville. It is a popular site for dive training and is good for beginners, as well as those looking to practice skills or test new equipment. The dive site includes benches for equipment set up, and stairs that allow for easy access to the water. There is an underwater statue park that divers can explore underwater and platforms for training/skill practice. Depth maxes out around 30 to 40 feet, depending on the water levels of the St. Lawrence River. The site is generally protected from the current of the river, although some light current may be felt depending on the river conditions of the day. The site is maintained by Save Ontario Shipwrecks, and Centeen tokens are available for purchase at local dive shops to support the park's upkeep.... Show More Aug. 17, 2023

Dive Flag Wreck of the Conestoga, Ottawa

The Conestoga sits just east of the town of Cardinal. The wreck is relatively intact with lots to see, making for a fun dive. A chain is positioned along the north side of the wreck, allowing divers to pull themselves, rather than swim against the current. Depth on this dive maxes out at about 20 to 25 feet, depending on the water level of the St. Lawrence. The dive is friendly for beginners and the moderate current provides a good introduction to diving in the St. Lawrence. Marine life, such as carp, bass, pike, and crayfish can be seen on and near the wreck. ... Show More Aug. 16, 2023
