Dive Sites added for Belize

🌴 Belize is renowned as one of the top scuba diving destinations in the world, offering incredible marine biodiversity and stunning underwater landscapes. The Belize Barrier Reef is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the second-largest barrier reef system in the world.

🔵The Great Blue Hole is one of Belize's most famous dive sites and a bucket-list destination for many divers. Located off the coast of Belize in the Lighthouse Reef Atoll, it is a massive underwater sinkhole that measures around 1,000 feet (300 meters) across and 400 feet (120 meters) deep. Diving in the Great Blue Hole offers a unique experience to explore its impressive stalactite formations and encounter marine species like Caribbean reef sharks.

🐋 Belize is known for its whale shark encounters particularly around the Gladden Spit and Silk Cayes Marine Reserve. From March to June during the full moon, whale sharks migrate to the area to feed on the spawning eggs of fish. Snorkelers and divers can swim alongside these gentle giants which can reach lengths of up to 40 feet (12 meters).

Thousands of Baby Corals

Australian reef scientists from the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) have released thousands of baby corals to potentially help restore damaged sections of the Great Barrier Reef. The baby corals that measure in around 1mm in diameter, were raised in aquaculture tanks at AIMS’ National Sea Simulator (SeaSim).

The corals are settled onto small concrete tiles and then attached to 10,000 ceramic “coral seeding” devices, which are being deployed in the central region of the Great Barrier Reef. The coral seeding devices help the corals survive their first year and give them an overall improved chance of survival by providing protection from grazing fishes and also deter algae growth.

Tankless Diving

Brownie’s THIRD LUNG’s Sea LiOn diving system promises up to 3 hours of run time for 2 – 4 divers replacing up to 9 scuba tanks. The battery-controlled system floats on the surface drawing fresh air and delivers it directly to the divers below. All the diver is required to wear is a weight belt, no buoyancy control device (BCD) or tank required.

The total weight of the unit is 53 lbs and contains a variable speed technology that will respond to the divers breathing demands. Lithium-ion battery packs can be easily swapped out and recharged in 6 hours.
